چکیده

During noninvasive ventilation it is reasonable to try to abolish clinically apparent patient-ventilator asynchronies but the use of more invasive tests to detect subtle asynchronies cannot be justified http://ow.ly/rXoA30gCm8O.

New modalities for non-invasive positive pressure ventilation: A review article

Efficiency of non-invasive positive pressure ventilation in the treatment of respiratory failure has been shown in many published studies. In this review article, we introduced new modalities of non-invasive ventilation (NIV), clinical settings in which NIV can be used and a practical summary of the latest official guidelines published by the European Respiratory Clinical Practice. Clinical tri...

Asynchrony and dyspnea.

Patient-ventilator synchrony and patient comfort are assumed to go hand in hand, yet few studies provide support for this common sense idea. In reality, synchrony between the patient and ventilator is complex and can be affected by the ventilator settings, type of ventilator, patient-ventilator interface, and sedation. Inspections of airway pressure and flow waveforms are reliable methods for d...

Patient-ventilator interaction during noninvasive ventilation.

There is arguably more evidence to support the use of noninvasive ventilation (NIV) than any other practice related to the care of patients with acute respiratory failure. Despite this strong evidence base, NIV seems to be under-utilized and the failure rate (need for intubation) may be as high as 40%. Some of these failures potentially relate to asynchrony, although the relationship between as...

Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist vs Pressure Support Ventilation During Noninvasive Mechanical Ventilation

Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist (NAVA) is an original approach to noninvasive ventilation that can improve patient-ventilator interaction and may infl uence physiologic outcomes 1 3 because the electrical activity of the diaphragm, a pneumatically independent signal, is used to control the timing and level of assist provided, regardless of the interface used. In a recent issue of CHEST (Ja...

Assisted mechanical ventilation: the future is now!

Assisted ventilation is a highly complex process that requires an intimate interaction between the ventilator and the patient. The complexity of this form of ventilation is frequently underappreciated by the bedside clinician. In assisted mechanical ventilation, regardless of the specific mode, the ventilator's gas delivery pattern and the patient's breathing pattern must match near perfectly o...
